Listen

Have never been good at listening
To really listen
I know He talks
He whispers
He cries out
LISTEN

And what happens when you aren't listening?
Does He stop talking?

I must stop talking first
I must stop getting my 2 cents in before
I must let Him have a turn
What kind of friend am I, never letting him talk?

Have you been listening to Him?  What's He saying to you?

My friend and I sang this at church today.
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear,
Falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me
And He talks with me,
And He tells me I am his own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
          He speaks and the sound of His voice
          Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
         And the melody that He gave to me
         Within my heart is ringing.

          I'd stay in the garden with Him,
      Tho' the night around me be falling,
     But He bids me go;
      Thro' the voice of woe
       His voice to me is calling.
And He talks with me,
And He tells me I am his own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

  1. Thanks for the reminder to listen, it is so hard to do sometimes.

  2. I've been running my mouth a lot lately. Silently, of course. Telling Him all of my uber-fantasic plans. It's time to quiet down, and just listen. In addition to a few other sacrifices I'm making for Lent, I've decided to turn off the radio when I'm in the car...ohhhh, it's so hard. I love to fill the silence.

    Excited to see what He'll whisper to me.

  4. Karrie,
    Wow! Thank you so much for this post. That precious old hymn makes me weep. Of course, worship makes me weep! :) You are so wise--we do have to listen. And I want Him to quicken my hearing to the point where I hear the faintest Whisper instantly. Thank you SO much for linking up, dear! :)

  7. I so enjoy it when I hear Him speak to me. Have a particular area where I recognize His instructions, encouragement, and "love" words. Keeps me moving along in present life, looking forward to Life in eternity with Him.

  9. So true. We need to be quiet and listen. We haven't sung that song in church in years but we used to sing it all the time. Thank you for bringing back those memories.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24 Leave me some honey.
