31 Days of Random Writing: Day 27

We live back in the hills
where we hold on to the past
one of the stories we hold on to is Tom Dooley
My grandmother taught 3rd grade for many many many years and loved local history
Her cousin, whom she was good friends with, also loved history
And actually wrote the song Tom Dooley that Kingston Trio recorded
So I grew up hearing these stories all the time

This week at school Owen sang the song Tom Dooley with his class
and then he came home and learned it on his mandolin
I know there are two ladies in heaven smiling down
That the legends have been are carried on

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 23/24

we sit at the kitchen table coloring the bats and ghosts for the halloween decorations she asked for
when she suddenly drops her crayon and says UT OH
(i'm thinking she's gotta potty or she's colored the wrong color)
she looks up at me and says "i gotta dance" in the most serious tone ever
music had been playing from the computer
a song she had never heard came on
and the urge to dance came over
she immediately jumps from her chair and starts moving
she danced and sang words that weren't the song and laughed and completely let go
my heart aches that one day she will will push away the urge to dance and sing even if it's not the right words or others are watching

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 14-17

it's been a long week
you ever say that?
but was it really a long week?
how as it any longer than any other week?
it's not the time that makes long weeks.
it's the many, many things piled into the time.

soccer games, soccer practice, homework, mandolin, meetings, supper with the team, work, laundry, lunches, playing with my kids, reading, writing, singing at the top of your lungs driving in the car praising Jesus......but what would you stop doing??

at the end of a long week....what do you wish you didn't have to do?

i would do not wish i didn't do a thing i did this week, i just wish i didn't have to do it all this week

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 13

some days it rains
some days are bad, no good days
but a rainy day doesn't mean a bad day
and a sunny day doesn't mean a good day

even on rainy days you have friends who carry the umbrella for you
and sometimes on sunny days you have to get out of the cloud you are in

but the secret is to make the best out of everyday

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 12

His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19 - 20

So often we try to bring God to a level we understand.
But he is so much more than we can ever comprehend.
I pray that this week I will relish in the truth that He is all powerful, all knowing, all understanding.

How can I pray for you this week?

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 7/8/9/10/11

From the early morning sunrises

to the late night adventures

to the hard work and the long hours

the soul becomes weary.

But we must find rest, comfort, and grace.......................

and it can only be found in the Lord.

 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
    my salvation comes from him.
                             Psalm 62:1

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 6

I walked to her car and she hands me a grocery bag tied up and warm to the touch
Tamales.
She has brought me a bag of tamales and taken food away from her 5 hungry mouths to give to me.
I smile and hug her and offer genuine thanks.
She speaks words to her daughter, who translates to me.  They aren't spicy.

And deep down in my soul. I am humbled.  Brought to my knees.
Those who have none, give all they have.
Those who have it all, struggle to give any.

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 5

Sometimes I don't understand

rephrase: A lot of times I don't understand

I don't understand mistreatment of children

I don't understand terrorist groups

I don't understand why God made Ebola

I don't understand churches arguing

I don't understand deceitfulness

I don't understand the ways of the world

But it's ok

I don't have to

Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal. Isaiah 26:4

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5

HE DOES UNDERSTAND

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 4

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Ephesians 5:15-21

in this great big world, how can little ol' me make a difference?

S E R V E

life is not about me

it's about Him

and He says love others, serve others,

forgive others

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 3

Sometimes its the climb up that gets us
Sometimes its the climb down

Are you climbing up or down??

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 2

It's long winding road up the mountain.
The bus weaves in the curves.
My ears fill with pop songs sung by middle school girls.
I search the leaves for colors of red, yellow, and orange.
Looking for change.

where are you looking for change?

31 Days of Random Writing: Day 1

I haven't wrote in....well it feels like forever.  So, I guess the quickest way to pick it back up is to do it every day.  You'll find bloggers all over the web this month giving you great advice on everything from the crock pot to your blog to your bathroom to your christian faith.  But you won't find that here.  I have no advice. I'm combating stink bugs and laundry, balancing teaching and mothering, trying to find sleep and a place to put the mail.

Therefore you are going to find randomness, release, and hopefully a respite from whatever you are combating, balancing, and looking for.

RANDOMNESS THOUGHT 1:

My friend Amy's book released last week!!  WOO-HOO

So, on day 1 of randomness, I'm giving away a copy of her awesome book, When More is Not Enough.  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below on this post OR on the facebook link to this post.  I will draw next Monday.
Good Luck!!  And if you don't win, feel free to purchase.  :)  It will be worth it.

RANDOM THOUGHT 2:

We went on a mini vacation this past weekend.  I would show you all the pictures, but then you would be super jealous.

no edit required

RANDOM THOUGHT 3:

I taught my kids the Virginia Reel today.  I was prepared for complaints, refusals, "absolutely no's". Not one kid didn't do it.  Not one complaint was made.  In fact, I was asked repeatedly "can we do this again tomorrow!?"  Yes, I made them pair girl-boy, yes I made them do-s-do, and yes they loved it.  They laughed and smiled and actually kept time with the music.  This makes my heart smile.

IN CASE YOU WANT TO LEARN :)

RANDOM THOUGHT 4:

Proverbs 29:17
Correct your son, and he will give you peace: yes he will bring delight to your soul.

{shakes head, I hear ya Lord, I hear ya}
