character.

what is character?
what makes character?
how do you lose character?
do you find in yourself?
do you find in your friends?
how do you get it back once it's lost? do you ever?
how do you teach it?

character is.....
trust with forgiveness
laughter with tears
happiness with bitterness
self discipline with failure
respect with discountenance
kindness with hurt
persistence with expiration
good judgment with mistakes

today was character day at school.  i didn't dress up.  i think i'm still working on my own character.  who am i? who does God want me to be?

“Strength of character means the ability to overcome resentment against others, to hide hurt feelings, and to forgive quickly.”

i'm still working on it. He's still working on me.

Beauty in a Balloon.

There was no school Friday. So, Owen, Mom, and I headed to Statesville to the Carolina BalloonFest.  I had never been there and had no idea what to expect.  I happened upon the event by accident really, saw it online and that Friday was free admission.  I didn't tell Owen where we were going, but that I was taking him to a surprise.  He was so excited and anxious about what was going to happen.  He kept guessing and begging for hints, but I didn't tell!  (big deal - horrible at keeping surprises)  The festival was at the Airport in Statesville and as we waited in traffic Owen got to watch a airplane take off right beside him, I think this may have been his favorite part of the trip.  We waited patiently in traffic for 45 minutes to park, walked out into this huge field just in time.  They were just starting to begin filling the balloons.  The balloons were huge and BEAUTIFUL.  I really was not prepared for how cool and magnificent it was going to be.

The football was his favorite of course.

I am thankful I was able to experience this with my son and my mom.
Grace comes in places we least expect it.

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. --Ephesians 5:19 - 20

Christmas Traditions

67 days until Christmas....

On my drive to school this morning it really hit me that this will be my first Christmas ever, 27 years, without my grandparents and their house on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.  After the tears stopped, I began to think of the memories of a house and of them.  The smell of peanut butter balls and chocolate fudge.  The decorations that came out at Halloween because my grandmother loved Christmas so very much.  The presents that my cousin, Nichole, and I spent endless hours counting and guessing what was inside.  The endless love my Granny sue and Pa gave to every person that entered the door.  They truly understood the meaning of Christmas and went the extra mile to make sure that everyone around them felt the love of Christmas.  Although, I will miss them this Christmas and every single day before and after, I am thankful for the gifts they gave me through the years but most of all the gift of love.

I am thankful that my son was able to spend memorable Christmas' with his great grandpa.  he will never forget Pa.

Christmas will not be the same this year.  I know we will try to create new traditions for Christmas.  Traditions - good or bad?  What are your Christmas traditions? Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without?

Luke 1:14 - You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

Laugh More....

Peek age of laughter....4 years old....they laugh once every 4 minutes or 400 - 500 times a day!!

while the average adult laughs only fifteen times a day

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

Slow down and let God shine through you.

Something to get a little laugh:

You Know You're a Mom When:

1. Your feet stick to the kitchen floor.....and you don't care.
2. When the kids are fighting, you threaten to lock them in a room together and not let them out until someone's bleeding.
3. You can't find your cordless phone, so you ask a friend to call you, and you run around the house madly, following the sound until you locate the phone downstairs in the laundry basket.
4. You spend an entire week wearing sweats.
5. Your idea of a good day is making it through without a child leaking bodily fluids on you.
6. Popsicle become a food staple.
7. Your favorite television show is a cartoon.
8. Peanut butter and jelly is eaten at least in one meal a day.
9. You're willing to kiss your child's boo-boo, regardless of what body part it happens to be on.
10. Your baby's pacifier falls on the floor and you give it back to her after you suck the dirt off of it because your too busy to wash it off.
11. Your kids make jokes about farting, burping, pooping, etc., and you think it's funny.
12. You're so desperate for adult conversation that you spill your guts to the telemarketer that calls and HE hangs up on YOU!
13. Spit is your number one cleaning agent.
14. You're up each night until 10 PM vacuuming, dusting, wiping, washing, drying, loading, unloading, shopping, cooking, driving, flushing, ironing, sweeping, picking up, changing sheets, changing diapers, bathing, helping with homework, paying bills, budgeting, clipping coupons, folding clothes, putting to bed, dragging out of bed, brushing, chasing, buckling, feeding (them, Not you), PLUS swinging, playing baseball, bike riding, pushing trucks, cuddling dolls, rollerblading, basketball, football, catch, bubbles, sprinklers, slides, nature walks, coloring, crafts, jumping rope, PLUS raking, trimming, planting, edging, mowing, gardening, painting, and walking the dog. You get up at 5:30 AM and you have no time to eat, sleep, drink or go to the bathroom, and yet ... you still managed to gain 10 pounds.
15. In your bathroom there is toothpaste on the light fixtures, water all over the floor, a dog drinking out of the toilet and body hair forming a union to protest unsafe working conditions.
16. You buy cereal with marshmallows in it.
17. The closest you get to gourmet cooking is making rice krispie bars.

It's all in the name...

I looked up the meanings of our names...

Karrie - friend; beloved
Matthew - gift from God
Owen - well born; young fighter

How true they are!  I often find myself surrounded by the best friends anyone could ask for.  I also have trouble keeping with them all!  I had 12 bridesmaids in my wedding and could have easily have added more!  It is true, I am a friend, and I love being a friend.  A gift from God, he truly was.  As I was wondering around lost, trying to find where God wanted me to be and what He wanted me to be, a man showed up.  He was a gift, Matthew.  I thank God for sending him every day.  And then there is Owen, who is well born and never lets down from a fight.  He is stubborn and hard headed.  But all these characteristics make him strong in character and make me love him even more.

And then there is Jesus, Savior.  There is no greater name!

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21
