humble pie

we don't like to eat humble pie
but it happens
we discussed idols today in sunday school
we think we don't have idols
we don't have "golden calves"
but we do
we sit and stare at a square box called a tv for hours
we work 40+ hours a week for money, which is made of a cotton and linen
we value our me time more than our God time
we serve our idols and then ask God to help

i ate some humble pie this weekend
i lost some money, a large sum of money, it fell out of my pocket some where while i was shopping
i was devastated, i cried and cried and cried
owen crawled up in my lap, reached in his pocket, pulled out a $1 bill and said here mommy you can have some of mine
i pulled out my best mommy smile and said thank you honey
and i stopped and i prayed

Lord, thank you.  thank you for your patience.  thank you for continuing to teach me you are more important than anything in this world and more important than all the money in the world.  i trust you and i trust that who ever finds this $100 bill will be thankful and need it much much more than i do.  Amen

  1. I'm sorry, Oh how that hurts, what a sweet darling to try to help you feel better.

  2. I'm sorry abouty the money, friend, but what a boy you have. I love what they teach us. Thanks for pointing out the important.

  3. This made me tear up -- that little boy heart trying to soothe his mama's. Makes me think about what is really important. In what was lost and what was found.

  4. oh...so sorry. I've had that happen. What a sweet boy you're training. Successfully, too, with a compassion like that. I hope you'll receive a double portion of what you lost!

  5. I'm sorry...but I too have a dollar if you need it :) And the person that finds that $100 just might have said a prayer about needing a sign that would let them know things were going to be okay.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24 Leave me some honey.
